PART V

Our journey starts with the most often asked question: who am I?

It is indeed the most important question to address.  Without the answer to it we have no starting point to self-realization and wander around this planet aimlessly, often the victims of people who have a better understanding of their own identity.

The answer is:  we are consciousness, Divine consciousness, having the human experience. We are better known as the soul. Souls are aspects of Divine consciousness or Divine beings. Most people think they have a soul, when in reality they ARE the soul.

What about the body we live in?  Well, we are only tenants in the human body. The human body is a mammal, like a dog, or a cat, or a cow. These animals have their own consciousness, created specifically for their own survival. This consciousness oversees the body, keeping it healthy and alive. It learns survival skills, such as hunting, gathering, or building a nest or burrow. In our case it’s working, shopping and cooking, etc. It has a memory bank that stores everything it ever saw, heard, did or experienced. This consciousness also uses these memories for survival through association, i.e. if it got burned near a fire, it doesn’t go near it again. It avoids animals that hurt it and hunt it. It takes cover from a storm. It is programmed by nature to be aware of danger, even in advance. It can be aware of an impending storm. It can find water.  We call this programming instinct in other animals, psychic ability in our own animal consciousness.

This animal consciousness doesn’t like change. It learns its skills by repetition and is happy to repeat its experiences over and over. It likes things and life in general to be predictable. It feels that change is challenging and can lead to new and bad experiences. Better to stay with what it knows.

The animal consciousness also reasons. Its reasoning ability is limited and varies from species to species. For example, parrots, dolphins and some simians display a very high reasoning ability, comparable to a 2-3 year old child.  Most other species reason on a much younger level.

Our human consciousness is exactly like some of the higher animals, except that, through its long association with us it has learned more skills and developed a higher reasoning ability, usually like a 3-year old child or even a little higher in this society.

Because it can’t reason everything out in our complex existence, it reacts to many things with its other important attribute—it emotions. It displays anger, grief, frustration, fear and happiness and many other emotions.

Here is the most important thing about our existence: we wanted to have the experience of life in this world and created an animal vehicle to live with, the human body.  Our experience is rich and can be rewarding. We are able to experience much more than other animals because of the influence of the souls superior intellect.

The soul determines what it wants to do or have, to be or to learn and asks the consciousness of our human to manifest it.  Whenever possible, our human –or subconscious- will manifest our requests. And so we have achieved our goal of life and living in this world. The human needs our guidance and support to manifest the world experience. We often forget or never knew that there is another consciousness at work here, that there are really two of us inhabiting that body, that it takes communication, cooperation and teamwork for us to accomplish things in this world.

When we, the soul, forget this, our lives are chaotic and often we become physically, emotionally or mentally ill from the stress of the lower consciousness that is totally overwhelmed by our demands. It is the subconscious who experiences this stress and often our bodies suffer the consequences of the subconscious not being able to cope.

Scientifically, this lower or animal consciousness is called our subconscious. Psychologists often refer to it as our “ inner child”. Either way, it is recognized as a viable, working consciousness, even though many individuals are not aware of it’s existence.

This is our first step to self-realization: to know that we are Divine consciousness, having the human experience. We are NOT the animal. By expressing through its body we experience what it experiences. We, the soul, can then look back and describe or observe the experience. However, we can never replay it without the subconscious and the body.

All through our incarnations, we have used our thoughts, our minds to communicate what we want from the subconscious and then lived life accordingly. It didn’t always work out very well, because of the subconscious’ limited reasoning and our ignorance about its limits.

Now that we know that this is a separate entity we can learn to communicate more   effectively with it. We can establish a dialog with it, talk with it as we would with our young children, with interest and love.

We start by finding a quiet place, relax our body, close our eyes and ask the subconscious (SC) to tell us its name. It usually complies. If it does not comply right away, it may be uncertain or afraid of what comes next. In that case we address it by our given name for now and ask for its name again later. Sometimes this takes several sessions. Its name may not match your gender-that’s ok. Do not assign a name for it-it already has a name.

When we were young children we talked to our little friend inside all the time and many of us are still aware of our inner voice. Most civilizations took this inner voice for granted and talked with it throughout their lives. Now we only see the spontaneous dialog in young children up to about seven years of age.

And so we have to train ourselves to communicate with our SC again. Once you establish this communication, your life will never be the same again. You will have opened the door to more personal power than you ever imagined. Our programs will lead you through the process.

After you get your SC name (or address it by your given name) tell it how happy you are to have established a dialog with it. Praise it for all the good things it does in your life and thank it for all the help she/he has provided.

Then ask the SC what it would like to tell you and listen. Be kind and patient. You are establishing a lifelong relationship.

Finally, ask your SC what it would like for a treat today to celebrate your getting to know each other better and listen. Perhaps it wants a nice dinner, or a movie, or an ice cream cone or a walk in the park. If you can agree with the request, be sure to follow through in order to establish trust and good feelings. Thank it again as you finish the dialog.

From now on talk to your SC all day, every day, just as you would with a small child. Again, this establishes trust.

The chart below illustrates the levels of consciousness. We also have a CD on the levels. Just click here to purchase it.

Your life is already changing in a positive way.  And remember, you can never go back to not knowing.
