EMPOWER YOUR LIFE

In April's Monthly Inspiration we examined our decision-making abilities. We said when we remember to make decisions from the soul's spiritual perspective while keeping in mind that we want to maintain a healthy balance for our subconscious, we are able to create a great life. But all of our ideas will simply remain as nice thoughts unless we actually put them into action by using our power.
This is the only way our lives move forward; by using our power. We know we need power to fly a plane or drive a car. So why do we think our lives will go anywhere if we avoid using our own power?
The importance of power is enormous. Yet power is one of the most misunderstood forces. Power itself is neutral. It is the way we choose to use it that determines if it is positive or negative. Take fire for example. We can use fire to cook our food or misuse it and burn down a house. The fire doesn't change from being helpful to being destructive. It is simply how we choose to use the fire that makes the difference. It's the same with our power.
So if power is so important, why do we resist using it? Several factors come into play here. Remember the subconscious is like a child who may have fears that we're not aware of. It can be the subconscious' fear of the unknown that blocks us from using our power. The subconscious may think, "What if I use my power and my life does change? Then what? What will my life be like after that?" As we've stated before, the subconscious is a creature of habit and therefore tends to resist any change, even if it will benefit us. Like a good parent, the soul needs to reassure the child. Visualization techniques can be helpful such as envisioning your life with the new change already in place. This can lessen the subconscious' anxiety. Sometimes we have an aversion to power seeing it as something negative, something to be avoided. This often comes from observing others who have misused their power in some way. We see someone in a leadership position who abuses their power and decide that we'd be better off just not getting involved with power. This is the subconscious' child-like reasoning that comes into play here, for we know that we must use power on a daily basis to accomplish anything. It is therefore the misuse of power that we want to avoid.
Which leads us to our next consideration. What if we make a mistake when using our power? First of all, the more spiritually conscious we are, the more we are aware of humanitarian concerns and therefore take others into consideration when making our decisions. Our spiritual ethics become an important safeguard and we are less likely to use our power in a negative way. We seek to empower our own lives and help others empower themselves. We do not seek to rob others of their power or enslave them in any way. While it is true that any leadership position we hold gives us power over others, parent or supervisor alike, we must seek to encourage those under our guidance to bring out the best in themselves, empowering them in their own individual roles. But the fact remains that we will all make mistakes from time to time in life. Since our daily life is like going to school, we learn our life lessons from the decisions we make, both good and bad and can grow from this process. When we do make a mistake, we must get conscious and use the soul's intellect to see how we could handle this situation in a more positive manner the next time. Then we review our new ideas with our subconscious, repair any damage if any was caused, apologize if necessary, and direct our subconscious to let go of this issue so we can move forward. This is the way we grow and progress.
And finally, we must allow ourselves to use our power in our own lives. This may sound strange, but we are often so involved with using our power to defend someone else's life, perhaps someone in need of our help, that we neglect to use it first for ourselves. We're often used to putting others needs before our own. We've reviewed this idea before in past Monthly Inspirations, but it's important to remember. Sometimes people pursuing a spiritual path think they must come last. This is not true; it is unhealthy. Establishing and maintaining our own healthy life must be our first priority. This way we have something to give to others. But I've heard people say that God will provide for them. They point out scripture verses that speak of how well God provides for the lilies in the field. Well the lilies of the field take advantage of all that God brings them; the sun, the rain, the soil. Too often people following a spiritual path think they don't need as much as others. Why not? The lilies don't hide from the sun or the rain. Why should we hide from the opportunities that come our way? While it is true that God will provide all the spiritual answers and enlightenment that our soul thirsts for, we must use our soul's free will to take advantage of life's opportunities in the world which means we must use our power to improve our own life.
